Yesterday (October 20), Amazon Web Services (AWS) experienced a major outage impacting online services such as Amazon, Alexa, Snapchat, and Fortnite.

Barclays, Lloyds Bank, Halifax, and more banks experienced significant disruption due to the outage which has "exposed a critical flaw" in the UK's Digital ID plans, according to financial experts.

While, AWS has now "returned to normal operations", bringing an end to the 15-hour long outage, there is still concern what similar events could mean for the Labour Party government's plans.

The UK government plans to roll out mandatory Digital ID for Right to Work checks by the end of this Parliament, with the scheme building on GOV.UK Wallet infrastructure that will sit on people's phones.
