ELK COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) -- A third-generation volunteer firefighter in Ridgway was pronounced dead after a single-vehicle crash Monday morning.

Mason Neureiter, 20, was the passenger in a vehicle traveling on Grant Road in Ridgway around 10:33 a.m. Oct. 20. For unknown reasons, the vehicle traveled off the road and struck a tree.

Although Neureiter was wearing a seatbelt and airbags were deployed in the crash, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Ridgway Fire Department, Neureiter was a volunteer firefighter with them, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. He also served as an Elk County 911 dispatcher.

"Mason, you will be sorely missed but never forgotten. Fly High! Please keep watch over us from above, and rest assured, we will take it from here,"
