CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) -- Counties across the Commonwealth are facing financial strain as the Pennsylvania state budget remains over 100 days late, compounded by a 21-day federal shutdown.
Centre County, like many others, is grappling with the budget impasse, which is affecting even large counties. Commissioners had prepared for the possibility of a delayed budget but are now reassessing their strategies as the situation persists and looking into future budgets. Commissioner Steven Dershem says flat funding will be the safest route to go in the future. That means keeping the same amount of money; programs receive the same amount each year, but doing so limits the county's ability to initiate or expand programs.
