AUSTIN (KXAN) — Smithville Police updated an Oct. 13 social media post to announce it arrested a suspect who it claimed was connected to a fatal hit-and-run on Oct. 11.

KXAN previously reported the crash killed Smithville resident Jimmie Lee Jones. It happened in a parking lot on Loop 230.

In the update, the department said officers arrested a Ricky James Stevens around 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 14 on a charge of manslaughter. The post states Stevens was taken to the Bastrop County Jail "without incident."

Stevens was released from jail on Oct. 16, jail staff told KXAN.

Jones' friends and family told KXAN they plan to hold a candlelight vigil for him this weekend. It will be held on Oct. 25 at Railroad Park (113 NW 1st St, Smithville), under the gazebo, from 7 to 8 p.m.
