Long before escape rooms and haunted popups became staples of spooky season, Vancouver Mysteries was making thrillers fun. Launched in 2013, the outdoor escape room invites curious patrons to solve clues while exploring downtown Vancouver.

When it first launched, Vancouver Mysteries offered just two experiences: one that allowed players to solve a murder on the streets of Gastown and another with a secret agent theme.

“The first year we did 97 bookings and I did all of them myself,” says owner Tanya Bennett. “I dressed up like a detective, went down and I did the game. [It] was fun, but a lot of work!”

Today, more than a decade later, the company offers five games that run several times a day, 362 days a year. In Ghost Pat
