ALPENA, MI – Future development at this rustic state park on the shores of Lake Huron could include waterfront cabins and a 100-site modern campground.

However, the plan is still in its infancy with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources seeking input from the public on what will become the “long-term roadmap for the park’s future development, continued use and resource protection,” officials said.

The draft plan for Rockport Recreation Area was first announced in September 2024 , and open-ended comments and input were taken then. Now, the DNR is surveying the public about how they use the park and what they would like to see there in the future; the survey is open through Nov. 21.
