Work has started on a new high street that will be part of a major new suburb in Newquay.

Market Street is at the centre of Nansledan, on the east side of Newquay and within reach of the North Cornwall coastline, and will be a food, retail, office and leisure destination, according to the Duchy of Cornwall.

Phase one has involved drilling 445 piles to create the foundations for the scheme, which will involve 500 tonnes of steel in its construction.

The 75,000 sq ft scheme is being directly developed by the Duchy of Cornwall and will be delivered in two phases.

The first phase will include a Tesco supermarket, a Market Hall featuring street food stalls showcasing Cornish produce, communal dining area, five shop units and co-working space above.
