The recent article about police enforcement on transit should have investigated not only whether transit users feel safe, but also whether they actually are safe, (“ Police arrest 28, zeroing in on bus stops, MAX platforms in 1-day NE Portland operation, ” Oct. 13).
A driver is far more likely to kill you than one of the shady characters on your MAX train. Police who were focused on public safety would of course enforce laws on transit, but they would also do much, much more to discourage the ubiquitous and deadly law-breaking of drivers.
