TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - As we observe National Teen Driver Safety Week, Pima County Sheriff’s deputies say many teen driving behaviors put themselves and others at risk.

A recent study shows Arizona ranks in the top 5 states with the most teenage driving deaths, and young drivers make up only 5% of all registered drivers in the United States.

NHTSA data shows they were involved in 13% of all crashes on Arizona roads.

“We have a lot of accidents that we respond to where teens are not paying attention to the roadway and looking down at their phone. If they’re looking down at their phone, they’re not paying attention to the vehicle in front of them and that can cause a rear end collision,” a deputy sheriff Jaylon McEuen said.
