Coronation Street fans have told one of the show's stars "don't leave" after not realising he is set to leave the cobbles behind in the coming months.

Actor Daniel Brocklebank has seemingly taken some fans of the ITV soap by surprise as he mentioned his upcoming departure in a social media post.

It was confirmed by the soap star earlier this year that he would be leaving Corrie, 11 years after he made his debut in the role of Billy Mayhew.

Daniel said in a statement: "I have been working on Corrie for a quarter of my life. I have adored every minute I have been in that building and have never not looked forward to going into work.

"I love everyone who works on this show and whilst I am sad to be going, I am equally excited to see what the future holds."
