Should the University of Arizona agree to President Trump’s compact in exchange for preference in federal funding? The president sent the Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education to nine universities, including the U of A, trying to get them to agree to a list of commitments that align with his political priorities in exchange for federal funding that typically covers research.

The president asked for initial feedback by Oct. 20 and a final decision by Nov. 21.

As reported by NPR, the compact would require the universities to bar transgender people from using restrooms or playing in sports that align with their gender identities, freeze tuition for five years, limit international student enrollment and require standardized tests for admissions, among other things.
