New Delhi: A day after Diwali celebrations, Delhi woke up to a thick blanket of smog on Tuesday as air quality levels worsened. Delhi remained in the ‘very poor’ category. According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the national capital recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 351, up from 345 on the day of Diwali.

The city saw fewer firecrackers this year following awareness campaigns and a partial shift towards green fireworks. Poor meteorological conditions and the onset of stubble burning in neighboring states contributed to the spike in the pollution levels. The dense haze that enveloped Delhi reduced visibility across several parts of the city. Out of 38 air quality monitoring stations in the city, 35 reported readings in the ‘red zone.’
