A Pontiac man is facing criminal charges in New York for an alleged assault of a woman and police officers called to the scene.
According to the Nassau County Police Department, James D. Nelson, 59, hit the woman, also 59, multiple times in the face and head with a closed fist and damaged her television during the Oct. 19 altercation. The incident started out as an argument and escalated, police said, at a home in Elmont, New York — a community on Long Island.
The situation reportedly escalated when responding officers encountered Nelson, describing him as “violent and combative,” who reportedly caused injuries to two of them, police said. The officers used a taser and pepper spray on Nelson, then took him into custody, police said.
