Over the last few years, the denim market has been all about offering the perfect pair of classic, straight-leg jeans . However in recent seasons, there’s been a noticeable rise in “fashion denim”, centred around bold, directional silhouettes – horseshoe jeans are one such example.
Looser than a straight-leg style, but more sculptural than your average baggy jean, the horseshoe jean (otherwise known as a barrel-leg) is identifiable by its unusual silhouette. It curves out at the hip and tapers in at the ankle, creating a distinctive shape.
Pieter Mulier was an early endorser of the horseshoe, and first introduced exaggerated, banana-like denim at his autumn/winter 2023 Alaïa show. While this iteration was slightly avant-garde, designed to appeal to a high-fashion customer, it sparked
