MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A woman is accused of forging three checks made out to a Memphis business, replacing their name with hers and depositing more than $13,000 into her bank accounts.
Shantaye Riley, 48, is charged with three counts of theft, $2,500 to $10,000; three counts of identity theft; three counts of criminal impersonation and three counts of forgery, $2,500 to $10,000.
Detectives said the investigation began July 2, when they responded to a report of counterfeiting at Plant Maintenance Corp. on Fite Road.
Two different bank representatives had contacted the company, saying they had identified suspicious checks in which someone had apparently washed the company name from the check and replaced it with a woman's name.
