A former Australian Army soldier will spend a year behind bars for the brutal bashing of a Mandurah businessman almost 20 years his senior.
Jason Kevin Smithwick pleaded guilty to unlawful assault causing bodily harm in circumstances of aggravation on Tuesday at Mandurah Magistrates Court.
Police Prosecutor First Class Cons. Kat Anderson told the court the victim was at his place of work on Pinjarra Road on July 11 at 10.40am when Smithwick walked into his office.
“(Smithwick) said ‘I’m going to spread your face across the room’ and grabbed the victim by the ears, pulled him up and headbutted him,” First Class Cons. Anderson said.
The 63-year-old victim fell back and hit his head on the wall.
