A former Doctor Who star has opened up about the ‘horrific’ backlash they faced following their exit from the show in a ‘frustrating’ admission.

Fans of the BBC series are waiting patiently for confirmation that it’s coming back in what’s proved to be a turbulent period for the programme.

Viewers were left stunned by this year's series finale when the Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor regenerated into Billie Piper, who previously played Rose Tyler.

The huge twist meant that Sex Education and Barnie actor Ncuti left the show after just two seasons playing the titular role.
