The Watertown Mall, once envisioned for conversion into lab and office space, has instead been sold to a Newton developer for $100 million.

National Development, known for projects such as Ink Block in the South End, bought the site from Alexandria Real Estate Equities, whose portfolio includes a cluster of life sciences buildings in Cambridge that span more than 11 million square feet.
