A man accused of attacking a woman with a hammer pleaded guilty to a felony assault charge in Ulster County Court as a jury was about to be impaneled.

The plea was entered Sept. 29 in Ulster County Court, but the Ulster County District Attorney's office did not report it until Oct. 20.

According to the district attorney's office, William Knox Jr., 55, whose hometown was not available, allegedly stalked and assaulted a woman on Broadway in the City of Kingston at approximately 2 a.m. on June 19, 2024.

Knox allegedly knocked the woman down in the middle of Broadway and repeatedly struck her on the head with the handle of a hammer.

The district attorney's office said the woman had rejected Knox's sexual advances earlier that night.
