It’s football season, and by now just about everyone knows about the Philadelphia Eagles’ infamous “tush push.” It’s that short-yardage play where quarterback Jalen Hurts lines up between a tight wall of teammates, and on the snap, they all surge forward, pushing him ahead for a yard or two. It’s not flashy. It’s just brutally effective.
The play has stirred up a fair amount of controversy. Some say it’s not “real football.” Others argue it gives the Eagles an unfair edge. But the league has reviewed it, and the ruling is in — it stays. And I’ve got to admit, I enjoy watching it. There’s something satisfying about its simplicity and power. No trick plays. No finesse. Just grit, timing, and trust.
But recently, Brené Brown gave me a whole new lens through which to see the tush push.
