David Luiz has written himself into the Champions League record books - but unwittingly saw his Pafos teammate steal the headlines.

The former Chelsea and Arsenal defender has been ever-present for the Cypriot side during their maiden campaign among Europe's elite.

Luiz completed a surprise return to European football from his native Brazil to sign for Pafos in August, just 11 years after their formation.

He has since started all three of the club's Champions League matches this season, including Tuesday's early kick-off against Kairat.

The Kazakhstan-based opponents are captained by Aleksandr Martynovich, who is the man who has helped Luiz make elite European history.
