A representative of the Department for Transport has given an update on whether using headphones while driving and cycling could be made illegal.
While it may not currently be explicitly against the law, wearing headphones while operating a car or bike can block important sounds like sirens, horns, and other traffic, which can impair your ability to drive safely and react to hazards.
This can also be used against you in a police investigation or insurance claim if an accident occurs.
It is a dangerous practice and could lead to you being charged with driving without due care and attention.
Instead, drivers are advised to use the in-car sound system to listen to music or connect their phone to the car's audio system via Bluetooth or a USB cable.
