A passenger has reportedly gone overboard on the Norwegian Jewel, a cruise ship carrying British holidaymakers. The vessel, which is currently en route from Barcelona to Miami, triggered a maritime emergency signal known as "code Oscar starboard" at approximately 2am. This alert indicates that a person has fallen overboard.

Passengers aboard the ship have described the alarming situation. One British holidaymaker, who wished to remain anonymous, recounted the moment they were awakened by the announcement. "I was asleep in the cabin. The captain put out an announcement ‘code Oscar starboard’. As it was transmitted into our rooms also, I thought it might be serious and googled it to find that Oscar means person overboard. We have just in the last 10 minutes had an announcement to confirm someone is overboard, and that is why we have been and still are circling," they said.

The Norwegian Jewel, which departed from Barcelona on October 15, 2025, is currently engaged in search and rescue operations, circling the Atlantic Ocean in an effort to locate the missing passenger. Norwegian Cruise Line has been contacted for further comment regarding the incident.

As the situation develops, passengers remain anxious while the crew continues their search efforts.
