HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — A motorcyclist who "set a new lap time" was taken to jail after he was caught going 60 mph over the speed limit in Hernando County, deputies announced on Facebook.

The Hernando County Sheriff's Office said a deputy was conducting speed enforcement on Cortez Boulevard near Olympia Road when a motorcyclist sped by.

The deputy used a laser device, which showed the motocylcist was traveling at 110 mph in a posted 50 mph zone, the sheriff's office said.

The driver, 21-year-old Corbin Smith, was stopped and arrested under Florida's new "super speeder" law, Hernando deputies said.

Smith's motorcycle was towed from the scene, and he was taken to the Hernando County Detention Center.
