Shillong, Oct 21: Approximately 10 tonnes of illegally cultivated cannabis spread across 5 hectares of land at Laitlulong, in the Sohiong area of East Khasi Hills, were destroyed in a joint operation on Tuesday morning.

Personnel of the East Khasi Hills police, district administration, Forest Department, Excise Department and Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) collaborated in the process.

The multi-department team systematically cut down the cannabis plants and destroyed them through controlled burning at the site.

There was no mention by police of any arrests being made.

The cultivation of cannabis is an offence under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
