Judges from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit put a pause on a block preventing Oregon's National Guard from being sent to Portland on Oct. 20.

The ruling is a step toward allowing the deployment of hundreds of National Guard members from Oregon and other states into Portland, but they cannot be sent in yet.

U.S. District Court Judge Karin Immergut issued a pair of temporary restraining orders on Oct. 4 and Oct. 5 . The first blocked the federalization and deployment of Oregon troops. The second put a pause on deploying federalized troops from any state to Oregon.

The Trump administration only appealed the first order, leaving the second order in place for now. They requested that second order be dissolved or paused on Oct. 20.
