A federal agent and the subject of an immigration enforcement action were struck by gunfire in Historic South-Central Tuesday morning.

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed they're on scene in the 400 block of East 20th Street, but they refused to confirm that a shooting had occurred after initially doing so.

The Los Angeles Times confirmed a shooting occurred, citing law enforcement sources.

The Times added that a federal agent suffered a hand wound, while the subject of the operation was also shot and wounded.

NewsNation's Ali Bradley reports that the federal agent is a U.S. Marshal. That Marshal was hit in the hand by a suspected ricochet, while the target, a suspected illegal immigrant, was hit in the elbow.

Both are in the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
