When the Oklahoma City Thunder won its first NBA championship in June, school was out, so students at Eugene Field Elementary School didn’t have the chance to share in the excitement of the moment with their classmates.
But school is in session now. With the Thunder’s season opener against the Houston Rockets set for Tuesday, Oct. 21, and Mayor David Holt having declared it to be “ Oklahoma City Thunder Day ” in Oklahoma City, officials with Oklahoma City Public Schools seized the opportunity to use something as routine as school lunches to give students the opportunity to celebrate the historic title won by the Thunder.
