BAY CITY, MI – The Bay City Department of Public Safety is getting a new heating system following concerns that one of its fire station’s boiler wouldn’t make it through the winter.
During its meeting on Monday, Oct. 20, the Bay City Commission voted 7-0 to approve a $99,615 contract with a Flint-based company, Goyette Mechanical, for the replacement of the boiler at Fire Station 1.
The station’s more than 50-year-old boiler is no longer serviceable due largely to a lack of available replacement parts and was deactivated this spring, according to city documents. It was also around this time that contractors claimed the boiler, which is the station’s only source of heat, would fail to function under colder temperatures.
