Delaware State University has announced it will temporarily defer payments for students and families who are experiencing direct financial impact from the ongoing hault in federal operations.
This government shutdown now rages on as one of the nation's longest at 21 days, USA TODAY reported on Oct. 21, with some 750,000 federal workers already on furlough, if they aren't essential employees now working without pay.
With no exact end in sight, Delaware's sole HBCU has shared aims to temporarily defer remaining payments for this semester and reduce various downpayment requirements for qualifying students “in good academic and financial standing” to register for classes in spring 2026.
President Tony Allen called it guarding against "dreams deferred," in his Oct. 20 annoucement.
“We do
