QUINCY — The final major construction project to update Illinois's oldest veterans home was wrapped up with a ribbon cutting Monday as the new long-term care facility at the Illinois Veterans' Home at Quincy.

"For nearly 140 years, the Quincy Veterans Home has stood as a testament to Illinois' dedication to caring for our military heroes," Governor JB Pritzker said at Monday's ceremony. "What began as a refuge for aging soldiers of the Union Army grew into a comprehensive long-term care facility adapting to meet the changing needs of each generation of veterans. This campus has weathered challenges and undergone numerous improvements to ensure veterans receive the respect and the support that they've earned."
