A man was critically injured in a police-involved shooting Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 21, in Mercer County, authorities said.

Officers from the East Windsor Township Police Department were called to the 300 block of Etra Road around 12:20 p.m. after a concerned citizen reported someone breaking into an abandoned house, according to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.

When officers arrived, they encountered an adult male and shots were fired, the prosecutor’s office said.

The man was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center with critical injuries. No officers were physically injured, according to the prosecutor’s office.

The scene was secured by law enforcement, and the New Jersey State Police are assisting with evidence processing, officials said.

The investigation into the circumstances leading up to the shooting remains ongoing.
