STRONGSVILLE, Ohio – The city’s fifth fire station at Royalton and Pearl roads will cost no more than $9.6 million to build, under a guaranteed-maximum-price agreement with RFC Contracting in Strongsville .
City Council approved the GMP agreement Oct. 6. If the fire station’s final cost exceeds $9.6 million, RFC, as the project’s construction-manager-at-risk, will have to eat the extra costs.
If the fire station ends up costing less than the GMP, the savings would return to the city.
Previously, the estimated cost of the Royalton-Pearl fire station was $8 million.
Also on Oct. 6, council approved borrowing $10 million, through the issuance of notes and bonds, to pay for the construction of the fire station, which will stand near the southwest corner of Royalton and Pearl.
