An earthquake shook parts of the South Island early Tuesday (Oct. 21) morning.

Earthquakes Canada says a 3.1-magnitude earthquake occurred 13 kilometres north of Sidney, 23 kilometres east of Duncan and 37 kilometres north of Victoria at 5:30 a.m.

The earthquake was “lightly felt” on the Saanich Peninsula, says the federal body, and its depth was 16 kilometres.

Of 79 reports, 74 people said the earthquake felt weak and caused no damage. Only two people said it felt light, while just three said they didn’t feel it at all.
