RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — A young girl is recovering after being hit by a car while using a crosswalk on Kelly Mill Road near Lake Carolina Elementary School Tuesday morning, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Cori Turner, a Lake Carolina resident who witnessed the incident, said she saw the girl attempting to cross the street on her bike with the help of a crossing guard when a driver made a left-hand turn.

“She persisted and started to cross in the crosswalk, and the driver was trying to make a left-hand turn,” Turner said. “The crossing guard had to step back because she didn’t want to get hit, and because the biker was behind the crossing guard, she didn’t see the car and she collided right into the side of the car.”
