A classic fall storm system is drifting away, bringing more comfortable fall weather for the rest of the week.

Showers and drizzly conditions will be tapering off tonight, leading to a dry outlook for the rest of the week. Clouds and gusty winds will also hang around through Wednesday.

Areas southwest of Rockford may get into a little sunshine late in the day Wednesday as the cloud deck drifts northeastward, but most can expect a cloudy day with highs struggling to reach the low 50s. Wind gusts up to 35 mph are expected to last through Wednesday afternoon, keeping wind chills in the 30s, before winds settle down after sunset.
