The Jasper City Council met in a special called meeting on Tuesday and gave the Jasper Economic Development Corporation the go ahead to move forward with a $160,000.00 expenditure to make repairs to a building, which will be occupied by a Bealls store.
In other action council also approved a motion by LeQuin Hilderbrand for city leaders to approve JEDCO expenditures that exceed $85,000.00.
However, Councilwoman Angel McCroskey said that she does not believe that it was a legal vote. McCroskey explained that JEDCO writes their own bylaws and not the city council.
In other action the council approved a request from Jasper Police Chief Garrett Foster to apply for a grant from Homeland Security to purchase new patrol vehicle dash cameras and portable radios.
