PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - Heretic Coffee Company, located in southeast Portland, is offering free breakfasts to customers who are losing their SNAP benefits, amid the ongoing government shutdown.
“When the system fails us, it’s up to one another to take care of one another,” said owner Josh White.
White just opened Heretic two years ago. When he found out that millions of Americans could lose their SNAP benefits starting Nov. 1, he knew he had to act. On Sunday, he took to social media and announced that starting Nov. 1, Heretic would offer a free breakfast to those in need, no questions asked.
But when a young boy walked into the cafe, asking if he could get the free meal a few days early, White immediately changed his schedule.
