URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) -- One group in Central Illinois has found a way to support families in four counties amid the ongoing government shutdown.
The Champaign County Regional Planning Commission (RPC) runs and operates early childhood education centers, and as the colder months are coming and trying financial times press on, they're gathering supplies for the people they serve. Organizers said that not only is this important, it's also timely.
The RPC is hosting not just a food drive, but they're also collecting clothing and hygiene products. It's supporting children five and under and their families. This is all happening as the government remains shutdown.
Organizers added that the drive was already in the works before, but now, the need is greater than ever.
"Head Start's mission is
