ALLEGAN COUNTY, Mich. — Wild Lake Michigan waves and erratic winds have marked the end of summer, leaving Laketown Beach in Allegan County empty for now.
But when the weather warms up again, Brad Laninga hopes there will be an easier way to get down there.
“We have had a project in the works for a little while here looking at putting in new stairs to give access to residents and guests alike, to the community down to the beach here,” said Laninga.
Currently, there are 51 steps at Laketown Beach that bring visitors up to a plateau on the dune. After that, it’s a hike through the sand to get down and back up.
Laninga, the chairperson of the Laketown Township Parks Commission, says the old steps that went to the beach were torn out earlier this year due to age and safety concerns.
