ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) -Many St. Louis-area residents still grappling with storm damage repairs are finding relief after Missouri issued a stern warning to insurance companies against canceling policies mid-claim. The move has already led to policy renewals for some homeowners.
Matthew Chrum, a storm damage victim in Arnold, received an unexpected cancellation letter last month from State Farm, citing “two claims” as the reason. Chrum’s home sustained damage to its roof and siding from hailstorms in 2022 and 2025.
“Got bad news, got a cancellation letter in the mail unexpectedly,” Chrum said, describing the initial shock. He was forced to shop for new insurance, which was “considerably more” expensive due to having to disclose a prior cancellation.
