KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The death of a Jackson County Detention Center inmate is under investigation.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said it was notified that an inmate died Tuesday after being transported from the detention center to a local hospital.
Authorities said a 44-year-old man from Independence was the victim. His identification will be shared once his next of kin has been notified, the sheriff’s office said.
A preliminary investigation revealed that there was no physical interaction between the inmate and corrections officers, JCSO said.
“The loss of a life is always tragic, and our hearts go out to those affected as we work to learn what happened,” said Jackson County Sheriff Darryl Forte.
