With the lowest voter turn-out since 2007, the 2025 Edmonton municipal election defied many people’s expectations of widespread anger over infill and a complete sweep of council, leaving one returning councillor questioning how much of the election narrative was artificially inflated.
Ward papastew candidate Michael Janz, who was commanding a nearly 5,000-vote lead with over half of polling stations reporting Tuesday, said there was a noticeable difference in the complaints which flooded social media and what he heard at the doorstep.
