UPDATE: "There's no business plan that's going to fix this mall," says one committee member. "Why would we make an investment in a mall that's in trouble?"

Northgate Mall, one of two malls in Chattanooga, opened its doors in the early 1970s. Now, a new plan has emerged for the property.

One committee member says, "We are looking for more of a mixed-use town center type of redevelopment." They go on to say that the property would serve apartments, offices, and more.

Committee members believe that this will mark a new age in the shopping and entertainment industry.

"Enclosed malls have certainly changed in the last 40 years or 50 years," one member says. "Chattanooga is going to be a one-mall city."
