TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Florida State Representative Berny Jacques (R-Seminole) proposed a bill on Tuesday that would make victims of "illegal migrant crime" or their loved ones eligible for financial compensation.

If passed, HB 229, the "Shane Jones Act," would impose a $10,000 fine on any law enforcement agency that "fails to enforce and comply with current state immigration law, which requires that law enforcement agencies collaborate with federal immigration enforcement officers."

The bill goes on to say that any fines collected would be used to compensate those who were victims of crimes committed by suspects in the country illegally.
