JACKSON, Mich. (WLNS) -- Help is on the way for families in Jackson facing homelessness thanks in part to a $1 million financial boost from the state for a brand-new family shelter.
"They've been there and they've made sure that my kids and I stay safe," said shelter resident Elizabeth King.
King is a mother of four and came to the Interfaith Shelter seven months ago with nowhere else to go. She says a separate shelter planned to serve only parents and children will allow a more nurturing, family-focused environment for moms in her position.
"It's hard enough being in this situation. And being here like I am, it's scary and I think that's good that there's going to be kind of a home-like setting," King said.
