It is a tale of two very different cities today as millions brace for wild winds and a downpour in Melbourne, while Sydneysiders prepare to sizzle under a spring heatwave.
Residents across south-east Victoria, including Melbourne, have been warned that severe weather is forecast for most of today, including wild afternoon storms and cyclonic wind gusts reaching up over 100km/h.
The Bureau of Meterology issued an early-morning severe weather warning at 4am for most of the state.
A low pressure system which developed off the southern coast of SA is now moving east and will bring with it damaging wind gusts this afternoon and into tomorrow morning, the BoM said.
Locations expected to be impacted include greater Melbourne, Horsham, Warrnambool, Bendigo, Shepparton, Seymour, Maryboro
