LOS ANGELES (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Maui native is among just 30 Major League Baseball managers.
Kurt Suzuki, who is originally from Wailuku, has been named the next manager of the Los Angeles Angels.
Although this is his first professional coaching job, the Baldwin High School graduate has extensive playing experience.
Suzuki payed for 16 years in the MLB as a catcher and world champion with the Washington Nationals.
He even spent two seasons with the Angels before retiring in 2022, adding an element of homecoming to his baseball career.
Suzuki has worked in the franchise’s front office for the last three years since retiring from playing.
