HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Rescue crews are set to resume search and rescue efforts for the man who went missing in the waters off Kailua Sunday morning.
Family members identified the man as Jon Naeole and said he usually paddles with others, but on Sunday morning, he went alone and didn’t return.
The Honolulu Fire Department got a 911 call at around 9:30 a.m. and began searching the shoreline as the Honolulu Ocean Safety Department searched the ocean by personal watercraft.
The Coast Guard reported Naeole’s one-person outrigger canoe was found offshore of Kailua Beach Park, about 200 yards from Flat Island.
Fire officials said a foil surfer found a paddle floating in the ocean, which was retrieved by the Ocean Safety Department.
