Republican voters in east Alabama’s House District 38 will return to the polls next month after no candidate cleared 50% in Tuesday’s special GOP primary.
With all precincts reporting, unofficial returns showed Kristin Nelson at 46.8% with 1,226 votes, Garrett Dixon at 33.38% with 847 votes, and Micah Messer at 20% with 526 votes, eliminating him from the race.

The primary runoff will be held Tuesday, November 18, which will effectively decide the next State Representative for the Chambers and Lee County district.
The vacancy arose when former State Rep. Debbie Wood (R-Valley) resigned this summer after relocating for her husband’s job.
